- ROH on HonorClub Episode 28 Preview
Ring of Honor is back with an all-new ROH ON HONOR CLUB this Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT where ROH Women's World Champion Athena puts her title on the line against Allysin Kay, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli welcomes Lee Johnson onto the Proving Ground as ROH World Six-Man Champions The Mogul Embassy do the same with another trio of potential contenders, and Kingston teams with Shibata to face Gringo Loco and Blake Christian! All that and more is coming to you this Thursday on Honor Club, the only home for the history of Ring of Honor, a history that shaped modern professional wrestling, and a present that is shaping the future of our great sport as well! ROH WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena vs. Allysin Kay Though this is their first meeting in Ring of Honor, Athena and Allysin Kay have quite a rich history during the course of their respective careers. Between March 2014 and March 2015 the two women clashed on four occasions in singles matches, with the first two going in Athena's favor and the latter pair going in Kay's favor. It should also be noted that their final meeting, a tag team bout in April 2015, also swung in favor of AK-47's team, essentially giving Allysin Kay the advantage in their rivalry. This Thursday night on Honor Club, that rivalry adds another chapter as Allysin Kay challenges “The Fallen Goddess” for the ROH Women's World Championship! Now Kay's pursuit of this championship dates back to 2021 and the tournament to crown the inaugural champion. As part of that tourney, Allysin bested Willow Nightingale in the first round before falling to Trish Adora in the next, and ever since Kay has kept her eyes on an opportunity to challenge. That opportunity has now presented itself with a fight against the self-proclaimed “Forever Champion”, and it goes down this Thursday night on Honor Club! Athena has proven herself the most dominant Women's Champion that Ring of Honor has ever seen, and building a legacy that could etch her name in the history books as the most dominant champion in the history of ROH, which is saying quite a lot in a company littered with champions like Samoa Joe, The Briscoes, Takeshi Morishima, Shane Taylor Promotions, Jay Lethal, and Kevin Steen. In the course of her title run, Athena has turned back 13 challenges, as well as squashed 22 Proving Ground/Eliminator challenges; now every run has to come to an end eventually, but it feels like Athena is just getting started. Can a world class athlete like Allysin Kay be the one to crash it down around “The Fallen Goddess”, or will she be just another piece of porcelein shattered at Athena's feet? TAG TEAM BATTLE... NJPW STRONG Open Weight Champion Eddie Kingston & ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata vs. Blake Christian & Gringo Loco On Sunday night at ALL OUT 2023, Eddie Kingston and Katsuyori Shibata teamed up to face ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta, but unfortunately for “The Mad King” and “The Wrestler” the dice did not roll in their favor. Instead it was Claudio scoring the pinfall victory for Blackpool Combat Club, leaving Kingston once again frustrated in his efforts to take down his most hated enemy. That being said, the losing duo looked superb as a team until that defeat, and they will have a second chance to show how good they can be this Thursday on Honor Club when they take on the duo of Blake Christian and Gringo Loco! This marks the first time Blake and Gringo Loco have teamed up in Ring of Honor, though they are quite familiar with one another as both ally and foe in their wrestling careers, and they are in for stiff competition with a duo like Kingston and Shibata. So if they can pull off the upset win, it will be a huge boost to their ROH status, as well as their wrestling profile at large. Can they pull it off this Thursday on Honor Club? PROVING GROUND MATCH... ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli vs. Lee Johnson And speaking of the ROH World Champion, he too will be in action this Thursday night when he welcomes Lee Johnson onto the Proving Ground! After having one huge opportunity last week when he, Action Andretti, and Darius Martin challenged for the ROH World Six-Man Championship, Lee Johnson has another on his plate when he enters the Proving Ground against Castagnoli; all he has to do is survive ten minutes with the champ, doesn't have to pin or submit him, doesn't even have to win by count out, all he has to do is survive for ten minutes, and a ROH World Championship opportunity will be his reward. To date, Claudio has turned away five potential challengers looking to earn their shot, will Big Shotty join that list, or will he be the first to prove himself worthy? ALSO FEATURING: Proving Ground: The Mogul Embassy(c) vs. Griff Garrision, Metalik, & Gravity Skye Blue & Willow Nightingale vs. The Renegades (Charlette & Robyn) Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta), Action Andretti, & Darius Martin vs. The Workhorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake) & The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd) Leyla Hirsch vs. Lady Frost The Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) Willie Mack & The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Capt. Shawn Dean)

ROH World Tag Team Championship Match! Aussie Open (c.)—Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis vs. Better Than You BayBay—AEW World Champion MJF & Adam Cole! Aussie Open blindsided Cole and MJF at the start of the match. They bashed Cole and MJF with the collider outside the ring! Davis planted MJF and splashed him for a two count. Fletcher whipped Cole into the steel guardrail. MJF was looking for the kangaroo kick, but Davis clipped him from behind. Cole made the tag and kicked Davis in the jaw, and then dished one out to Fletcher. Fletcher charged at Cole and Cole superkicked him. MJF and Cole went for the double clothesline, but Davis pulled Fletcher out of the ring. Aussie Open pulled out Cole and swarmed him before MJF could do his dive. - The ROH World Tag Team Titles Are On The Line At Zero Hour: All In London
ROH World Tag Team Championship Match... Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) (c) vs. Adam Cole & MJF Suffice to say that the main event of ALL IN: LONDON is going to be greatly affected by the events of the ZERO HOUR beginning at 12pm ET/9am PT on AEW's official YouTube channel. Adam Cole, having never won the ROH World Tag Team Championship, and MJF, having never competed in anything involving Ring of Honor, will challenge the defending ROH World Tag Team Champs Aussie Open ahead of their fight over the AEW World Championship later in the night! Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis, after capturing the titles at ROH's DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR 2023 pay-per-view event, have successfully defended the championship on four occasions, including this past Wednesday on DYNAMITE against The Hardys. They are on quite the roll since their July title victory, but face incredibly tough competition in MJF and Cole who, although relatively new to tag team competition, were victorious in the Blind Eliminator Tag Tournament, and gave FTR a tremendous fight in the AEW World Tag Team Championship loss a few weeks back. Amazingly enough, even with their AEW World Title fight on the horizon, Cole and Friedman have managed to keep their new-found friendship intact. Both men seem intent on maintaining the friendship, despite the protestations of Cole's long-time friend Roderick Strong, the seeming impossibility that MJF can be trusted at all, and the championship fight coming just a few hours after this tag team title bout. Can Aussie Open use the circumstances of the evening to their advantage and retain the ROH World Tag Team Titles? Or will the bromance of Cole and MJF lead to success as a team just before the biggest fight of both men's careers? And if the match plays out in the favor of Aussie Open, how will that affect the AEW World Championship Match, as well as the relationship between championship and challenger? In the history of the ZERO HOUR/BUY-IN, this is the most important match that's ever taken place, but will it be Aussie Open or MJF/Cole who history remembers as the victor?

- ROH on HonorClub Preview for August 17, 2023
Last week, we witnessed former ROH World TV Champion Shane Taylor defeat Gravity in the Eliminator Tournament to earn a shot at Samoa Joe, and saw Josh Woods walk away from The Varsity Athletes. Plus, Billie Starkz topped Robyn Renegade only to fall victim to an attack from her sister Charlette, and Maria Kanellis-Bennett continued to scout the talent around the Ring of Honor landscape! This Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT, exclusively on Honor Club, Samoa Joe teams with Stokely Hathaway to fight The Boys, Charlette Renegade and Billie Starkz lock horns, Josh Woods and Silas Young fight under Pure Rules, and so much more is going down on Honor Club! TAG TEAM MATCH... ROH World TV Champion Samoa Joe & Stokely Hathaway vs. The Boys (Brandon & Brent Tate) It seems ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe is having a little fun playing with Stokely Hathway's emotions by inserting the ROH Board of Directors member into a match. Yes, that is correct, Stokely may have the power on paper, but it is Joe who called the shots here and Big Stoke had little option but to go along with Joe's decision. That is why this Thursday night, with Joe as his partner, Stokely Hathaway will fight inside a ROH ring for the first time since 2015! Now Stoke has had the training, yet aside from his two bouts in AEW with The Firm, he hasn't really competed since 2019, but this is something which Samoa Joe has to be keenly aware of, yet doesn't really care. This feels more like the ROH World TV Champion knowing he can handle The Boys himself, so he's just enjoying messing with Stokely in the process. Now Dalton Castle, given his desire to fight Samoa Joe once again, will no doubt be keenly paying attention to this fight, regardless of what his night may bring him. Will Joe's bit of fun at Stokely's expense backfire on him and lead to one of The Boys biggest victory ever as a team? And will the fact that is Shane Taylor waiting in the wings for Joe and his ROH World Television Championship opportunity play a factor? SINGLES MATCH... Billie Starkz vs. Charlette Renegade Suffice to say Billie Starkz has not made friends of The Renegade Twins since she came onto the Ring of Honor landscape. A victory over Robyn led to an assault by both sisters, but strangely enough, it also brought out a surprising assist from the unlikeliest of sources: Whatever that was about, whatever Athena was doing, that remains to be seen, but what we do know is that this week on Honor Club Billie Starkz will have to go head-to-head with the other half of The Renegade sisters, Charlette! Clearly the ladies have no problems using their numbers to gang up on Billie, and clearly they are also sore losers if the bout doesn't go in their favor, so will it be a repeat scenario when the final bell rings? Does Starkz have another pyrrhic victory coming this Thursday, or will she be prepared for another fight after the fight should she get her hand raised? PURE RULES... “The Technical Beast” Josh Woods vs. “The Last Real Man” Silas Young After his ROH Pure Championship loss to Katsuyori Shibata, Josh Woods has made the choice to walk away from group training, the Varsity Athletes, and walk his own path once again. This doesn't mean he's leaving “Smart” Mark Sterling behind, just that he intends to be his own man rather than in a tag team, and make it his mission to once again become Pure Champion. Sterling has said he supports the choice, and as such would line up some proper competition for “The Technical Beast”, and that begins this Thursday evening with a man quite familiar with what Woods brings to the table, “The Last Real Man” Silas Young! Young and Woods have been both friend and foe, Silas even challenged Josh for the Pure Title during his reign, so between that, a Last Man Standing fight at DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR 2021, and a 30 Minute Time Limit Pure Wrestling bout on ROH WRESTLING #507, Woods holds three consecutive victories over his former partner. Will Josh make it four in a row as he begins this solo quest in earnest, or can the former 2-Time ROH World TV Champion shut Woods down right out of the gate? PROVING GROUND MATCH... ROH Women's World Champion Athena vs. Brittany J The roll “The Fallen Goddess” Athena is on continues unabated as she heads into another Thursday night with an unblemished record in Ring of Honor competition! Thirty-five straight victories is unquestionably the best record of any competitor in the new era of honor, and likely the best streak in the history of ROH as a whole. Even Samoa Joe's historic ROH career began with multiple losses before he claimed the World Title from Xavier, and saw him on the losing end of several matches before his title reign was over, but at no point did that legend go 35 consecutive matches without a loss. Athena is on a remarkable run, and she aims to continue it this weekend when she invites Brittany J onto the Proving Ground for her Ring of Honor debut! Brittany has fought a handful of times in AEW, but this is her first ever ROH match, and what an opportunity is being presented. Just last ten minutes with the champions, and a future title match will be hers; Brittany doesn't even have to defeat Athena to get a shot, just survive, but thus far no one competing on the Proving Ground has done that with “The Fallen Goddess”. Can Brittany J be the first? ALSO FEATURING: -Trish Adora vs. Lady Frost -Leyla Hirsch in action -And more!! Ring of Honor is back with an all-new ROH ON HONOR CLUB this Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT as ROH World TV Champion Samoa Joe teams with Stokely Hathaway of all people to take on The Boys! Plus, after walking away from the Varsity Athletes, Josh Woods is taking on former partner Silas Young in a Pure Rules match, and Billie Starkz takes on Charlette Renegade! That, and plenty more, comes your way this Thursday night. Honor Club is the destination for more than 20 years of ROH history, featuring the WEEK IN HISTORY playlist that is updated every Monday, as well as the exploits of Samoa Joe, Josh Woods, Kyle O'Reilly, CM Punk, Sara Del Rey, Dalton Castle, Great Muta, Naomichi Marufuji, and more!!
