- ROH on HonorClub Preview for May 25, 2023
DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2023 week would not be complete without Ring of Honor joining the action, and presenting one of the most loaded edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB yet! As always, the action comes your way exclusively on Honor Club, and here's just a little of the kind of action you can experience every week with bouts like Zack Sabre Jr. defending his NJPW World TV Title against AR Fox: This week the aforementioned ZSJ will team with ROH World TV Champion Samoa Joe to face former ROH World Tag Champ Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal, the ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli will welcome Serpentico onto the Proving Ground, as ROH Women's World Champion does the same for Promise Braxton, The Kingdom takes on Ninja and Willie Mack, Stu Grayson sides with The Righteous, all while Rocky Romero, Willow Nightingale, Mercedes Martinez, and more will be in action! The fights begins at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club, the home for Ring of Honor's 20+ years of wrestling history as well as brand-new weekly episodes, and an absolute bargain for just $9.99/month! TAG TEAM BOUT... ROH Television Champion Samoa Joe and NJPW World Television Champion Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal Last week on Honor Club, following his championship victory over AR Fox, NJPW World Television Champion Zack Sabre Jr. had some choice words to share with the world regarding his status as a Television Champion. Suffice to say the words did not sit well with Ring of Honor's own World Television Champion, and they brought ZSJ face-to-face with Samoa Joe. Their confrontation would in turn become a confrontation with the former ROH World Tag Team Championship team of “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal, and more challenges were issued. The one from Daniels and Sydal would create this unlikely tag team encounter, with Joe and Zack Sabre Jr. agreeing to set aside their issue until after they've dealt with Chris and Matt. But can they co-exist? That's the eternal situation in situations like this; can Samoa Joe and ZSJ actually be a team given the tensions simmering between the two? Daniels and Sydal, although it has been over 15 years, were a championship-level team while Joe and Zack just want to fight each other to settle who is the better Television Champion. We shall see this Thursday night which duo proves the better team! PROVING GROUND MATCH... ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli vs. Serpentico Coming off his ROH World Tag Team Championship bout on Wednesday's DYNAMITE, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli is welcoming Serpentico onto the Proving Ground, giving the Spanish Announce Project member an opportunity to earn a future championship match. Last week, in tag team action with Angelico, the masked man picked up a rare victory and is now fired up to meet “The Swiss Superman” in one-on-one competition! This is the biggest opportunity of Serpentico's short time in Ring of Honor, maybe even the biggest of his entire wrestling career, and it would undoubtedly be the biggest upset in company history if Serpentico could actually defeat Castagnoli in this bout, but he doesn't have to beat Claudio to earn that title match, he just has to survive for ten minutes. That is the rule of the Proving Ground, beat the champ or survive ten minutes and a future title shot will be yours. Can Serpentico do either of those and etch his name in the ROH history books? No one has managed to win a Proving Ground match in this new era of honor; can he be the first? PROVING GROUND MATCH... ROH Women's Champion Athena vs. Promise Braxton As of today, ROH Women's World Champion Athena stands as the second longest reigning champion in the nearly two year history of the title, and is tied with Rok-C as the most successful of those champions, both having successfully defended on nine occasions. To eclipse Mercedes Martinez's reign, Athena needs to hold onto that title for another 54 days, but in order to become the champion with the most defense, she needs to just put up one more. The problem seems to be though that no one can defeat “The Fallen Goddess” in a Proving Ground Match to actually earn a championship bout, but that doesn't mean people will stop trying. This Thursday night Promise Braxton will be the one getting the nod, and though they not be from the same generation, both women trained under the learning tree of Booker T. Braxton is no stranger to the ROH Women's World Championship, having challenged Rok-C back in October of 2021, and though she failed to claim the title, Promise did take the defending champion to her limits for thirteen minutes, three minutes longer, it should be noted, than she has to survive in order to earn a shot against Athena. Promise Braxton just has to last ten minutes with Athena in order to earn her championship bout, it's either that or actually defeat “The Fallen Goddess” on Thursday night; which one will it be? TAG TEAM ACTION... The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis) vs. Ninja Mack & Willie Mack Last week on Honor Club, The Kingdom went through physical hell in battling Action Andretti and Darius Martin in the second-ever tag team Fight Without Honor. Unfortunately for the 2-Time former ROH World Tag Team Champions, that situation didn't lead to victory, but rather a bitter bloodied defeat after eating a variation on the Doomsday Device with Andretti coming off a ladder. So after tasting that loss, Taven and Bennett are looking to bounce back with a vengeance, and they've got the newly minted Mack Attack in their sights! After facing each other in singles competition two weeks ago, in a match won by Willie Mack, he and Ninja Mack have decided to join their forces and join the tag team division here in ROH. The Kingdom will be the first duo to test the mettle of the Mack Attack; which duo will be found wanting? TRIOS MATCH... The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) and Stu Grayson vs. Marcus Kross & Vary Morales & LSG The Righteous of Vincent and Dutch are finally getting their wish fulfilled as, this Thursday night, Stu Grayson will spend an evening away from The Dark Order and ally himself with The Righteous. As can be heard in the video embedded above, Grayson was tired of others, specifically Evil Uno, doing his talking for him, and has chosen to give Vincent one night to show him something. It's a frightening prospect for Evil Uno, potentially losing his closest friend and longest-standing ally, to a man who seems even more akin to a cult leader than anything The Dark Order has done since their inception. What would it do to Uno to see another ally, especially Stu Grayson, abandon The Dark Order and sign on to another unit? But what will Grayson do if doesn't care for what he sees from The Righteous? ALSO FEATURING: -ROH World Tag Team Champion Penta El Zero Miedo vs. Slim J -Rocky Romero vs. Titus Alexander -Willow Nightingale vs. Hyan -Mercedes Martinez vs. Dream Girl Ellie -Skye Blue vs. Miranda Alize -Mark Briscoe vs. JD Drake -Kiera Hogan vs. VertVixen The new edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB premieres this Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT, and it will featured the ROH World TV Champion & NJPW World TV Champion uniting to face former ROH World Tag Champions, one-half of the current ROH World Tag Champions in action, Stu Grayson giving The Righteous their one chance, two Proving Ground matches, and so much more!!! - ROH on HonorClub Preview for May 18, 2023
This Thursday night on Honor Club, the new era of honor will experience its first Fight Without Honor! The origins of this match date back to the original GLORY BY HONOR and the ROH debut of Samoa Joe, and it can be experienced right here on the official YouTube page: This time around ROH's most violent stipulation will come to bear in tag team form as the issues between Top Flight, Action Andretti, and The Kingdom come to a head! On top of that, NJPW World Television Champion Zack Sabre Jr. returns to Ring of Honor to defend his championship, The Gates of Agony battle Dalton Castle and one of his Boys, ROH World Tag Champion Rey Fenix goes one-on-one with Gringo Loco, and Mercedes Martinez returns to ROH competition for the first time since FINAL BATTLE 2022! It all goes down starting at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club, the home for Ring of Honor's 20+ years of wrestling history as well as brand-new weekly episodes, and an absolute bargain for just $9.99/month! FIGHT WITHOUT HONOR... Action Andretti & Top Flight's Darius Martin vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis) This all began during the FINAL BATTLE 2022: ZERO HOUR when The Kingdom made their long-awaited return to Ring of Honor competition, and Top Flight made their ROH debut. As former 2-Time ROH World Tag Team Champions, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett assumed this would nothing more than them reclaiming their throne as one of ROH's dominant tag teams, but instead it was Top Flight heralding their arrival into the new era of honor with a victory over The Kingdom. Suffice to say it did not sit well with Taven and Bennett, and they've been seeking revenge ever since. Bennett and Taven split singles victories with Dante and Darius, with Taven defeating Darius while Bennett lost to Dante, and both teams were involved in the Reach for The Sky Ladder Match at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023. Unfortunately, Dante Martin suffered a horrific injury that night that necessitated surgery, and has him on the shelf for the foreseeable future. One might think that would leave Darius easy pickings for The Kingdom, but an unforeseen ally emerged when Bennett and Darius went one-on-one just after SOH '23. While Bennett and Taven were willing to take a DQ loss for Matt just to double-team Darius, Action Andretti was not about to sit back and watch Martin get assaulted. This led to a tag match between the four men in which The Kingdom emerged victorious, a wild 10-Man tag two weeks ago, and will culminate in this Fight Without Honor on Thursday night! The last FWH took place at FINAL BATTLE 2021: END OF AN ERA when Shane Taylor topped Kenny King, and its history includes battles between Adam Cole & Jay Briscoe, BJ Whitmer & Steve Corino, as well as El Generico & Kevin Steen, just to name a few. Each has been brutal and violent in its own way, and at their core has been a complete lack of respect between the parties involved. No handshake, no honor, no rules; this is a match where anything goes, where the match isn't going to end by countout or disqualification, only by pinfall, submission, or a referee stoppage. This is the ultimate way to settle issues in Ring of Honor, and now it comes to the new era of honor this Thursday night! NJPW WORLD TV CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Zack Sabre Jr.(c) vs. AR Fox As the one and only NJPW World TV Champion, ZSJ has reigned since WRESTLE KINGDOM 17 on January 4th, and has successfully defended his championship on six occasions, including his victory over Blake Christian on the very first episode of ROH ON HONOR CLUB. His most recent defense went down on May 3rd and saw Sabre go to a 15-Minute draw with Jeff Cobb, that being the standard time-limit set for this championship. This Thursday, ZSJ returns to ROH with another championship defense on his plate, and this one comes as with a visit from an old foe. It may come as a surprise to many, but this is not the first collision between ZSJ and AR Fox; in fact that took place 12 years ago in Indianapolis, IN when both men were part of a Four Way bout, while their initial singles collision went down in Germany in October 2013, and was won by Fox. As a point of fact, both of their one-on-one bouts were won by AR Fox, with the second taking place in Eddystone, Pennsylvania in July 2016. Suffice to say these two men are not strangers, it may have been nearly seven years since that last collision, time in which both have grown exponentially as wrestlers, but they are not complete strangers. In fact, it's reasonable to think that this challenge serves as reminder to the NJPW World TV Champ that he's never beaten AR Fox in singles competition, so with the title on the line, it's time for ZSJ to figure out how he can beat Fox! Fox's only taste of NJPW competition to date was his battle with David Finlay at CAPITAL COLLISION 2023 a month ago, so a championship victory here would throw him right into the mix as the very nature of this championship dictates that every title match will be made available for free through NJPW World. That means more eyes from around the world are on the champion, and AR Fox would certainly love to be the one those eyes are fixed upon. Can he repeat the successes of the past this Thursday night? Or has everything ZSJ has experienced since their last fight made him more than Fox can handle? TAG TEAM BOUT... Gates of Agony (Kaun & Toa Liona) vs. Dalton Castle & Boy #1 (Brandon Tate) There are plenty of issues wrapped up in this fight right here, especially since FINAL BATTLE 2022 when The Embassy dethroned Dalton Castle & The Boys as ROH World Six Man Champions. Brian Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona won the rematch on the third edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB as well, and the events in that video embedded above show just what unfolded most recently. And that's not even the whole of the history between Kaun and Dalton Castle; their first interactions date back to BEST IN THE WORLD 2021 during Kaun's first run as a Six Man Champ with Shane Taylor and Moses. So suffice to say there's plenty of tension, even before the alleged assault on Boy #2, aka Brent Tate, and this Thursday night Dalton Castle and Boy #1 (Brandon Tate) will have their chance to even the score with The Gates of Agony just a bit, even if it's not a championship situation like their last two meetings. THE RETURN... Mercedes Martinez vs. Ashley D’Amboise A former ROH Women's World Champion, Mercedes Martinez has been out of action since FINAL BATTLE 2022 when Athena ended Martinez's championship run after 220 days (253 factoring in her Interim Title period). As the longest reigning champ in the brief history of the title, Mercedes racked up five defenses against foes like Serena Deeb, Trish Adora, and Viva Van, and had won 14 straight matches prior to her loss last December. This Thursday night will be Mercedes first time, not just in a ROH ring, but in any ring since that FINAL BATTLE 2022 loss, having spent the last five months healing up from all the wear and tear her body has experienced after 22 years of ring wars. So while Ashley D'Amboise may be fairly new to the game, just two years under her belt and only one previous ROH match, this situation may be her best chance to make an impact on the scene. Martinez may be feeling a little rusty, looking to shake it off at Ashley's expense, but D'Amboise could turn it into the biggest night of her wrestling career if she can score the upset! ALSO FEATURING: -ROH World Tag Team Champion Rey Fenix vs. Gringo Loco -Willow Nightingale vs. Madi Wrenkowski -Iron Savages (Bear & Bronson w/ Jacked Jameson) vs. The Wingmen ("Pretty" Peter Avalon & Ryan Nemeth) -“The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal vs "The Reality" Zack Clayton & Cole Karter -Lady Frost vs. Miranda Alize -Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) vs. Shinobi Shadow Squad (Cheeseburger & Eli Isom) -The Workhorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake) and Shane Taylor vs. Ricky Gibson, Eddie Pearl, & Schaff The latest episode of ROH ON HONOR CLUB premieres this Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT, and on tap is a NJPW World TV Championship match, the return to action of a former ROH Women's World Champion, the first Fight Without Honor in over a year, plus so much more! It's an absolute steal at $9.99/month, but you also get access to so much of Ring of Honor's rich history including the WEEK IN ROH HISTORY playlist updated every Monday, episodes of ROH WEEK BY WEEK, and 2008's DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR featuring Nigel McGuinness defending the ROH World Championship against Tyler Black, Claudio Castagnoli, and Bryan Danielson!
- ROH on HonorClub Preview for May 11, 2023
On Thursday night, the ROH faithful will witness TWO World Championship bouts when Athena defends her Women's World Championship against Skye Blue, and ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe takes on the challenge of Blake Christian! Plus, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli teams with Wheeler Yuta as they prepare for a championship bout with The Lucha Brothers, Mark Briscoe battles Shane Taylor, as well as appearances by The Righteous, The Dark Order, Ninja Mack, Willie Mack, Tony Deppen, The United Empire's Kyle Fletcher, and more!!! The night's action begins at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club, an absolute steal for just $9.99 per month, and the only home for more than twenty years of Ring of Honor history, plus the new episodes that drop every single Thursday night! ROH WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena(c) vs. Skye Blue The challenge was issued by Skye Blue last week on Honor Club, a response to everything ROH Women's World Champion Athena has done during her reign atop the division, all the bullying, the post-match assaults, and the general disdain she projects onto every woman who has even looked at the championship title. Well it is very clear that Skye Blue, now 5-0 in Ring of Honor competition, is exhausted of Athena's antics, and looking to bring them to an end! “The Fallen Goddess” has her own stance on how this is going to go and has no problem taking on the challenge of Skye Blue this Thursday night! This will mark the first time these two women have locked up in singles competition, although they have battled in a pair of three way matches outside of the confines of AEW/ROH, as well as in a tag match on DARK: ELEVATION #100 earlier this year, a match it should be noted that was won by the team of Skye and Yuka Sakazaki. But that was a tag team affair, that was several months ago, and Athena had only just begun her reign of terror over the ROH Women's Division. It was only the dawning stages of this 22-match win streak, just six weeks into this incredible championship run, but just as Athena has been on her roll, Skye Blue has been building her own resume within Ring of Honor. This Thursday, the two will collide with the ROH Women's World Championship at stake, but also Skye's opportunity to shock the world by ending this incredible unbeaten streak! TAG TEAM BATTLE... The Blackpool Combat Club (ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) vs. “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams & “The Professional” Rhett Titus Last night on DYNAMITE, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli collided with ROH World Tag Team Champion Rey Fenix in a match billed as Double Jeopardy. What that meant was in a battle of two champions, the victorious man would earn an opportunity to challenge for the other's championship. So when Castagnoli pinned Fenix to the mat after a tremendous battle, the ROH World Champion earned his shot at becoming a 3-Time ROH World Tag Team Champion! That ROH World Tag Team Championship match will come soon enough, and Claudio starts his preparation, along with former 2-Time ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta, this Thursday night on Honor Club! The Blackpool Combat Club's work begins with a former ROH World Tag Team Championship duo, Tracy Williams and Rhett Titus, two men with whom Claudio and Yuta are quite familiar. The history between Tracy and Yuta was well-documented several weeks ago when they collided during the April 13th Honor Club episode, but they aren't the only ones with history. Titus and Castagnoli have their own interactions dating back to their first interactions in 2008, and including multiple ROH World Tag Team Championship battles between The Kings of Wrestling's and ANX during the former's record-setting (at the time) 363 day reign. Can the team once referred to as The Foundation throw a roadblock in the path of The Blackpool Combat Club's championship aspirations, or will The BCC steamroll Rhett and Tracy en route to challenging The Lucha Brothers for the ROH World Tag Team Championship? ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Samoa Joe(c) vs. Blake Christian Just a week after decimating “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels in their ROH World Television Championship match, Samoa Joe is stepping right back into the ring to for his 11th championship defense. Since defeating Minoru Suzuki nearly 400 days ago, Joe has put down the challenges of Daniels, Colt Cabana, Mark Briscoe, Cheeseburger, Tony Deppen, Juice Robinson, Brian Cage, Josh Woods, Jay Lethal, and Trent Beretta. Some of them former Ring of Honor champions in their own right, some looking to claim their first trophy in ROH, but all ended up as victims of the ROH Legend. This Thursday night, a new face will step up to challenge Joe for the ROH World Television Championship, one whose Ring of Honor record may not be stellar, but who has more than earned his moniker of “All Heart”. Blake Christian is 1-4 in ROH singles competition, 4-6 overall, but those numbers do not measure fight, they do not measure desire, they do not measure heart, and those are things that Blake has in spades. So while he is unquestionably the underdog in this fight, while he is certainly fighting from underneath, that doesn't mean Blake Christian is going to to just roll over and die, that he's not going to fight with everything in his body. “All Heart” will live up to that name, and win or lose, Blake Christian aims to make sure Samoa Joe knows he was in a fight! ONE-ON-ONE... Mark Briscoe vs. Shane Taylor Mark Briscoe and Shane Taylor are no strangers, they first set foot into the ring opposite each other back in at 2016, and have fought in tags, trios, Honor Rumbles, Four Corner Survivals, but never in a one-on-one situation. That all changes this Thursday night when, stemming from a bout several weeks ago when Mark and The Lucha Brothers beat Taylor and The Workhorsemen in Trios action, Mark Briscoe and Shane Taylor will go one-on-one! Taylor is hungry to make an impression in this new era of honor, something he's found a kinship with in JD Drake and Anthony Henry apparently, and putting the screws to the former 13-Time ROH World Tag Champ would be the way to make that impact. That's not to say Shane doesn't come with his own impressive resume, Taylor was a dominant ROH World TV Champ for 218 days and 1/3 of the ROH World Six Man Champs for 295 days, and even went toe-to-toe with Rush for nearly 20 minutes over the ROH World Championship in February 2021. Shane Taylor is a bona fide threat, something Mark Briscoe knows from their history together, and from what he witnessed during their time in ROH, and as such, Mark is going to have to bring his A-game to this fight. ALSO FEATURING: -The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) vs. The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Capt. Shawn Dean) -Robyn Renegade vs. Vertvixen -Ninja Mack vs. Willie Mack -ROH World Six Man Champions The Embassy Affiliates(Brian Cage, Kaun, & Toa Liona) in action! -United Empire's Kyle Fletcher vs. Tony Deppen -AR Fox vs. The Workhorsemen's Anthony Henry -The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver, & Stu Grayson) vs. The Trustbusters (Jeeves Kay, Slim J, & Sonny Kiss) & The Varsity Athletes' Josh Woods New episodes of ROH ON HONOR CLUB premiere every Thursday at 7pm ET/6pm CT and this week features both the ROH Women's World Championship at stake as well as the ROH World Television Championship, plus The Blackpool Combat Club is in tag team action as they prepare for their ROH World Tag Team Championship match with The Lucha Brothers! In addition, Mark Briscoe, The Righteous, The Dark Order, The Embassy Affiliates, and AR Fox will all be in action, but that's not all you get for your $9.99/month! In addition to the weekly episodes available exclusively with an HONOR CLUB subscription, there is also a plethora of classic content from ROH's 20+ year history including the WEEK IN ROH HISTORY playlist updated every Monday, 2019's HONOR UNITED events, and so much more!
- ROH on HonorClub Preview for May 4th, 2023
This Thursday night, Ring of Honor returns to the Fort Lauderdale area for the first time since November 11, 2017's THE ELITE event that is now available on Honor Club! This Florida event hosts another Proving Ground match with ROH Women's World Champions Athena facing Angelica Risk, Rocky Romero faces Lee Moriarty in a Pure Rules rematch, Claudio Castagnoli puts his ROH World Championship on the line against TMDK's Robbie Eagles, and one of the biggest rivalries in modern wrestling reignites when Christopher Daniels challenges Samoa Joe for the ROH World Television Championship! The bouts get underway at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club, your home for more than twenty years of Ring of Honor history, as well as new episodes of the most influential wrestling company of this century dropping every single Thursday night! There's no better bang for your buck in wrestling than an Honor Club subscription! ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Samoa Joe(c) vs. Christopher Daniels It has been eight years since the last time Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels stepped into a ring as foes, June 20th of 2015 to be exact, and that night it was a tag team affair with Joe and AJ Styles defeating Daniels and Frankie Kazarian. As for their last singles collision, rewind time another two months to April 9th of that year, and an event in Halifax, Nova Scotia where “The Fallen Angel” scored a victory over Samoa Joe. But that victory was just a drop in the bucket of their larger story; 19 one-on-one matches dating back to 2001, Joe with a commanding lead of 14-4-1, and that's just their head-to-head collisions. Look at the whole of their careers, and they've shared the ring in at least 69 different scenarios, with 14 of them taking place under the auspices of Ring of Honor. Thus it is quite appropriate that their first battle in nearly a decade takes place in ROH considering it was Christopher Daniels who first brought Samoa Joe into the fold back at GLORY BY HONOR on 10/5/02 as The Prophecy's Hired Assassin. Over the course of their ROH careers, Daniels would challenge Joe unsuccessfully for the ROH World Title at GLORY BY HONOR II, he would unsuccessfully challenge Joe for the ROH Pure Championship at NIGHT OF THE GRUDGES II, and it would only be in their final singles ROH collision at DRAGON GATE CHALLENGE that Daniels would actually defeat Joe. So the history within ROH leans heavily in the favor of the defending World Television Champion, their history away from ROH also tilts tremendously in the favor of Joe, but Daniels knows this, he said as much in his interview embedded above. He knows Joe has spilled his blood on plenty of occasions, at one point years ago Joe even wore a towel to the ring that was soaked with The Fallen Angel's dried blood, but that has never stopped Daniels from fighting before, and it won't stop him now. In this new era of honor, there are few men who know Samoa Joe as well as Christopher Daniels, much less one like CD who know him from the days before Joe earned the moniker of ROH Legend, or etched his name in the history books as the longest-reigning ROH World Champion of all-time. Will that familiarity be the necessary ingredient to ending Samoa Joe's chokehold on the ROH World Television Champion? Or will Daniels suffer the same fate he did the two previous times he challenged Samoa Joe for a ROH championship title? PURE RULES... Rocky “Azucar” Romero vs. The Firm's Lee Moriarty Big Bill absolutely swayed the outcome of the clash between Rocky Romero and Lee Moriarty last week in Pittsburgh, but this week things will have to be a little different for The Firm as “TaigaStyle” will meet “Sneaky Style” in a Pure Rules bout! While neither man has ever stood as challenger for the Pure Championship, both have competed in Pure Rules matches before, albeit not in Ring of Honor in the case of Moriarty. Still, the fact he brought those rules to another wrestling company on the independent scene is testament to the style of professional wrestling that Moriarty loves, or at least did before Stokely Hathaway and The Firm sunk their teeth into his neck. As for Rocky, he was part of the 2020 tournament that saw the ROH Pure Championship reborn, although he was ousted in the first round by David Finlay, but that didn't stop him from competing in other Pure Rules matches in ROH during 2021, even without a championship on the line. Romero hit the nail on the head when he said Lee Moriarty was an example of the kind of talent Ring of Honor was built on, and the style of wrestling the Pure Division offers is at the heart of what ROH represents, so if the master of TaigaStyle can step up his game against the former multi-time ROH World Tag Champ this Thursday, well then ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata better start paying attention to Moriarty as well! ROH WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PROVING GROUND MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena(c) vs. Angelica Risk Twenty-one consecutive victories in Ring of Honor competition, and it does not look like “The Fallen Goddess” Athena is going to be stopped anytime soon! She's topped Miyu Yamashita twice in championship fights, as well as women such as Yuka Sakazaki, Emi Sakura, and Marina Shafir when the title's been on the line, and that says nothing of her Proving Ground dominance over hopeful challengers like Lady Frost, Brooke Havok, Ashley D'Amboise, and a plethora of others. This week on Honor Club, the increasingly confident, increasingly arrogant Athena will open up the Proving Ground once again, this time to young Nightmare Factory graduate Angelica Risk. Now Risk has had numerous opportunities on DARK and DARK: ELEVATION, and even got a shot on RAMPAGE once when facing Serena Deeb's Rookie Challenge, but it is her experiences beyond the AEW realm that could serve her well against Athena. Angelica may “only” have 50 matches under her belt, but she's gotten world class training, and been in there with world class athletes, and she's going to have to tap into every bit of knowledge she's picked up in order to survive the onslaught of Athena for ten minutes. That's all she has to do to earn a future championship match, not even beat “The Fallen Goddess”, just survive her for 600 seconds... ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Claudio Castagnoli(c) vs. TMDK's Robbie Eagles Those were the words Claudio Castagnoli shared with the world following his last championship defense against Metalik several weeks ago, and no one within Ring of Honor has stepped up to challenge “The Swiss Superman” since the message was delivered. But clearly others were listening, others outside the auspices of ROH, because this Thursday night one of New Japan Pro Wrestling's top Junior Heavyweights is returning to the fold for the first time since 2019 to take on Double C in singles competition with the ROH World Championship at stake! Robbie Eagles, now a member of the TMDK faction alongside Zack Sabre Jr, Mikey Nicholls, Shane Haste, and others, is coming into this fray having recently challenged Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship. The native Australian is also freshly off a return to his home for a pair of NJPW TAMASHII events before coming back to the States for the first time since August 2022 for this fight with the reigning ROH World Champion! Will Robbie Eagles be the man to answer Claudio's plea for someone to step up to his challenge? ALSO FEATURING: -Action Andretti, Top Flight's Darius Martin, The Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta), & Dark Order's Stu Grayson vs. The Varsity Athletes (Ari Daivari, Josh Woods, & Tony Nese) and The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) & Tony Nese -LFI's Preston Vance vs. Rich Adonis -Skye Blue vs. Robyn Renegade -ROH World Six-Man Champion Brian Cage vs. Brock Anderson -Willow Nightingale vs. Steph De Lander -Komander vs. The Spanish Announce Project's Angelico ROH ON HONOR CLUB premieres every Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT and this week features two championship matches, a Proving Ground contest, a wild ten man tag, and plenty more for your $9.99/month! The weekly episodes are exclusively available with an HONOR CLUB subscription, one that not only includes the latest episode every Thursday night, but also classic content from ROH's rich history including 2005's MANHATTAN MAYHEM, CREATING EXCELLENCE: KEVIN STEEN, 10 QUESTIONS WITH STEVE CORINO, and more!
- ROH On HonorClub Preview For April 27, 2023
This Thursday, Ring of Honor is back in Pittsburgh for the first time since November 2, 2019 and THE EXPERIENCE 2019 event available with your Honor Club subscription! With this return to the Steel City comes a tremendous collection of matches featuring ROH Women's World Champions Athena welcoming Lady Frost onto The Proving Ground, The Infantry trying their hand against LFI one more time, The Best Friends making their ROH ON HONOR CLUB debut, Rocky Romero in action against Lee Moriarty, Blake Christian versus Gringo Loco, and so much more! ROH WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PROVING GROUND MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena(c) vs. Lady Frost Lady Frost and Athena may be strangers as far as in-ring opponents, but Frost is no stranger to Ring of Honor competition. Back in 2019, at STEEL CITY EXCELLENCE, a very inexperienced Lady Frost made her first appearance inside a ROH ring, and would go on to compete on several FUTURE OF HONOR events that year. As her level of experience grew, Frost would actually earn an opportunity to challenge for the ROH Women's World Champions last year, on 3/17/22 to be exact, during the reign of Deonna Purrazzo and on an episode of IMPACT WRESTLING television oddly enough. Frost made her return to ROH competition last month, losing to Willow Nightingale on the very first Honor Club episode, and would also fall to Skye Blue a few weeks later on the fourth episode. This week, Frost returns to ROH competition in her highest profile bout to date, a Proving Ground match against Athena with a potential shot at the ROH Women's World Championship at stake! Now the rules of the Proving Ground are simple; either defeat the champion in this non-title affair or last the time limit, and earn a future championship match. Simple on paper, not so much in execution, especially when the champion is a “Fallen Goddess” running on a 20-0 record in ROH competition, who has successfully defended her title on eight occasions, and is drawing comparisons to Samoa Joe's record-setting ROH World Championship reign, not so much in length as Athena still has a long way to go to reach that, but rather in the complete dominance she's exhibited. Be it on the Proving Ground or in a championship match, it hasn't yet felt like Athena's been in jeopardy, and that's not sleight against the level of competition she's faced, but rather a credit to just how strong a champion she has been since besting Mercedes Martinez at FINAL BATTLE 2022. Will Lady Frost be the one to hand Athena her first “L” in this new era of honor, or will she simply become another piece of porcelain smashed at Athena's feet? A RETURN TO HONOR! Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) vs. Mookie Summers & Joe Ocasio It has been over four years since the last time the Best Friends set foot inside a ROH ring together, ironically enough considering the circumstances of today, against the tandem of Juice Robinson and David Finlay. But this Thursday night on Honor Club, Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta will return to those familiar stomping grounds for tag team competition! In their first go-round with Ring of Honor, Chuckie T and Trent challenged for both the ROH World Tag Titles as well as the World Six Man belts, but never managed to achieve championship success. Perhaps this new era of honor will be their ticket to finally claiming gold in ROH, and if that is indeed their intent, it begins this Thursday night on Honor Club! REMATCH, WITH A TWIST... LFI (Preston Vance & Rush) vs. The Infantry (Capt. Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo) Three weeks ago, in the aftermath of SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023, The Infantry attempted to survive the onslaught of La Faccion Ingobernable, that night in the form of Rush and Dralistico, but Capt. Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo were smashed down in their valiant efforts. This week on Honor Club, The Infantry will try to topple LFI once more, this time in the form of former 2-Time ROH World Champion Rush and the debuting “Perro Peligroso” Preston Vance! It might be Vance's first time competing inside the ROH squared circle, but Ring of Honor was one of many things that inspired him to enter into the wrestling world in the first place several years ago. This opportunity to finally compete in the ring that helped inspire him to action is going to push Vance to make a statement this Thursday night. La Faccion Ingobernable aims to remind everyone how they ran roughshod over ROH not that long ago. ALSO FEATURING: The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) vs. The Trustbusters(Jeeves Kay & Sonny Kiss) Skye Blue vs. Diamante The Firm's Lee Moriarty vs. CHAOS' Rocky Romero Gringo Loco vs. Blake Christian ROH ON HONOR CLUB comes to you Thursday nights at 7pm ET/6pm CT and this week features ROH Women's World Champion Athena opening the Proving Ground to Lady Frost, The Best Friends returning to ROH competition for the first time in four years, LFI battling The Infantry, Skye Blue in action, The Dark Order battling The Trustbusters, and more! The event is available exclusively with an HONOR CLUB subscription, a steal at $9.99/month, and that includes a new episode every Thursday night, plus classic events from ROH's 20-plus year history, like FINAL BATTLE 2010, CM PUNK: THE SECOND CITY SAINT, and more!
- ROH On HonorClub Preview For April 20, 2023
This week, the best pound-for-pound pro wrestling on the planet is back in Milwaukee for the first time since September 2019's GLOBAL WARS event, and in the main event will be ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe putting his championship on the line against former 2-Time ROH Tag Team Champion Colt Cabana! Plus the makeshift team of Darius Martin and Action Andretti collide with the The Kingdom, one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions will be in action, Konosuke Takeshita battles Lee Moriarty, and ROH Women's World Champion Athena steps back onto the Proving Ground to give someone the opportunity of a lifetime! The matches get started at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club, your home for over twenty years of Ring of Honor history, plus new episodes of the most influential wrestling company of this century dropping every single Thursday night! ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Samoa Joe(c) vs. Colt Cabana It has been a bit over 17 years since the last time Samoa Joe and Colt Cabana collided inside the squared circle, March 11th of 2006 to be exact, and while it wasn't the exact bout planned for that evening, it resulted in Joe taking Colt down in two minutes, forty-five seconds. That wasn't the only clash between the two men, back in June 2004, at the first SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, Colt pinned Joe in the elimination match and earned himself a shot at the ROH World Title Joe had been holding for 16 months at that point. Joe topped Colt in that DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR II, NIGHT 2 fight, but it wasn't the end of their collisions. They would duel in a unique Double Stakes Match at STALEMATE in which shots at both the ROH World & ROH Pure Championship were at stake, and they would eventually clash over the Pure Title at the landmark DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR III event, but as with their World Title clash, it would be Joe who emerged victorious from that fight. Three one-on-one matches, two ROH championship bouts, and all three victories have tilted into Samoa Joe's favor. But it's been a long time since that last fight and both men have been through so much in their lives since the night Joe came straight from the airport, hit the ring still in his street clothes, and toppled Colt Cabana inside The Arena. That's not the only history wrapped up in this ROH World Television Championship bout though; Colt was involved in the tournament to crown the first champion, losing to eventual winner Eddie Edwards in the first round, and he was also the very first man to challenge Edwards in a title fight, as well as one of the last prior to Christopher Daniels ending Eddie's reign on 12/10/10. So while Samoa Joe may stand as a ROH Triple Crown winner, holding every singles championship that the company has ever offered, Colt has never held a championship of his own. He took a stab at Jericho during The Ocho's ROH World Championship reign, and before that it was July 2016's match with Jay Lethal when Cabana last had a ROH singles title shot. The opportunity to be a singles champ has come several times, but to this day Colt has not been able to (frequently for outside reasons) been able become the champion. Can he finally achieve that destiny against a man he's never beaten in a one-on-one scenario, or will Colt's heart be broken once again? Sign up to HONOR CLUB and find out this Thursday night! ROH WOMEN'S WORLD C'SHIP PROVING GROUND MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena(c) vs. Heather Reckless Porcelain...trash bag...hussies; that is how ROH Women's World Champion Athena refers to the potential challengers that have been put into the ring with her, and based on how she treated Ashley D'Amboise last week AFTER the match had already taken place, it's safe to say Athena has very little honor in her personal Ring of Honor. But after going 19-0 in Ring of Honor competition, and successfully defending her championship eight times against foes like Willow Nightingale, Yuka Sakazai, Emi Sakura, and Miyu Yamashita twice, one has to question just who can survive “The Fallen Goddess”? Well Heather Reckless, a product of the Black & Brave Academy, will be the next woman who takes a stab at being the one to survive Athena's onslaught. Reckless is no stranger to this level of competition, on AEW programming she's battled Thunder Rosa, Anna Jay, as well as Penelope Ford, and away from the AEW/ROH banner, she's gone to battle with Skye Blue, Billie Starkz, and the aforementioned D'Amboise. Reckless has a good amount of experience under her belt, and she comes from a top shelf training academy, but will it be enough for her to earn a future ROH Women's World Championship match? She doesn't even have to beat Athena to gain that opportunity, by the rules of the Proving Ground, Heather Reckless just has to survive the time limit. Simple, right? TAG TEAM COLLISION... The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis-Bennett) vs. Action Andretti & Top Flight's Darius Martin The issues between The Kingdom and Top Flight have been building since FINAL BATTLE 2022 (Now Available On Honor Club), and took a whole new turn in the aftermath of SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023 just a few weeks ago. Dante Martin suffered a horrific injury that has put him on the sidelines for the next several months, at the very least, but that hasn't stopped his brother Darius from continuing the fight. Unfortunately, at least initially, for Darius that meant going it alone against Mike Bennett and finding foes who didn't care if they were disqualified, as long as they got to put a hurting on their foe. What Mike Bennett and Matt Taven quickly found out though was that the Martin brothers had some support in the form of Action Andretti! So this week on HONOR CLUB, Action Andretti will get his first official ROH match when he teams with Darius to face the former 2-Time ROH World Tag Team Champions! ALSO FEATURING: AAA Mega Champion El Hijo Del Vikingo vs. Gringo Loco Willow Nightingale vs. Robyn Renegade “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer vs. Jah-C ROH World Six Man Champion Brian Cage vs. Joey Jett The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & John Silver) vs. Cole Karter & Lee Johnson ROH World Tag Team Champion Penta El Zero Miedo vs. Nick Comoroto Konosuke Takeshita vs. The Firm's Lee Moriarty And The Iron Savages vs. Logan Lynch & Ren Jones! ROH ON HONOR CLUB drops Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT and will feature Samoa Joe defending the ROH World Television Championship against Colt Cabana, ROH Women's World Champion Athena welcoming another onto the Proving Ground, El Hijo Del Vikingo in action, The Kingdom taking on Action Andretti and Darius Martin, and so much more! The events is exclusively available with an HONOR CLUB subscription, a steal at $9.99/month that includes a new episode every Thursday night, plus classic events from the last 20+ years like the original SUPERCARD OF HONOR and it's legendary DRAGON GATE Six Man Tag, as well as a multitude of RING OF HONOR WRESTLING TV episodes from 2011-2021, and plenty of hidden gems!
- ROH On HonorClub Preview For April 13, 2023
Last week on Honor Club, the ROH faithful were treated to a pair of championship matches with Christopher Daniels failing to dethrone Katsuyori Shibata as ROH Pure Champion, and Miyu Yamashita falling a bit short against ROH Women's World Champion Athena! Plus, the new ROH World Tag Team Champion Lucha Brothers teamed up with Mark Briscoe for Trios action, Konosuke Takeshita was back in ROH action, The Righteous of Dutch and Vincent made their return to the fold, and so did “The Franchise of ROH” Jay Lethal! This week, the best pound-for-pound pro wrestling on the planet returns to Rhode Island for the first time since 2016's CONQUEST TOUR: NIGHT 3 event (available with an Honor Club subscription), and presents Claudio Castagnoli defending this ROH World Championship against “The King of Rope” Metalik, two former partners colliding in Wheeler Yuta and “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams, Athena welcoming Ashley D'Amboise into her Proving Ground, ROH Pure Champion Shibata and his pupil Alex Coughlin in action, and so much more! The action gets started at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club, the home for hundreds of hours of Ring of Honor history, as well as new episodes every single Thursday night! ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Claudio Castagnoli(c) vs. Metalik Coming out of his successful ROH World Championship defense against Eddie Kingston at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023, Claudio Castagnoli has essentially stated that anyone worthy can have an opportunity, anyone that is but “The Mad King”. So with that in mind, this Thursday night a very special athlete has stepped up to the challenge, a man nearly became a ROH World Six Man Champion at SoH 2023, the high-flying Metalik! Having trained with the legendary Skayde, Claudio is quite familiar with the Lucha Libre style of professional wrestling, and has even incorporated aspects of it into his own game over the years. In addition, Metalik and Claudio are no strangers to one another, having competed in multiple matches opposite one another during 2020, including one singles match won by Claudio back in September of that year. That being said, the competitive style of Metalik makes him a hard wrestler to prepare for; you never know what direction he's going to be coming from, or from which rope he may come flying at you. This battle is very much one of speed versus power, strength versus agility, and it is certainly going to test the mettle of both champion and challenger! Could the ROH faithful see the crowning of a new ROH World Champion this Thursday night on Honor Club? ONE-ON-ONE... Wheeler Yuta vs. Tracy Williams The early years of Wheeler Yuta and Tracy Williams wrestling careers are inexorably tied together; although Williams has a few years more experience than his opponent for this Thursday, Williams started in late 2009 while Yuta in 2014, the two men have been part of each other's lives since even before their first bout in July 2016. They trained together at The Wrestle Factory in Philadelphia, and then following their first collision, actually formed a successful tag team dubbed Hot Wheelz, facing teams like Ortiz & Santana, Joey Janela & Orange Cassidy, and Alex Reynolds & John Silver, just to name a few. They even returned to competition against one another when Tracy reigned as the IWTV Independent Wrestling Champion in 2018, and revisited it one more time at the end of 2021. In their three singles collisions, Tracy holds two of the victories, but that was before Yuta earned his way into The Blackpool Combat Club and began his tutelage under a collection of the greatest fighters in modern pro wrestling. Yuta, though recently dethroned as Pure Champion by the legendary Katsuyori Shibata, has more than proven himself as an elite competitor over the last year, especially when he made history be becoming the only 2-Time Pure Champion in Ring of Honor history. As for Tracy Williams, he is a former ROH World Tag Team Champion with Rhett Titus as well as a former ROH World Television Champion, and heads into this bout after matches with Jeff Cobb at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023: ZERO HOUR and against Daniel Garcia on last week's edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB. Much like Yuta, pure wrestling is a style that hits Williams' sweet spot, the man was on the losing side of the Pure Tournament finals to crown a new champion back in October 2020, fought in multiple Pure Rules matches that did not involve the championship, and even in ushered those rules over to tag team wrestling alongside Titus. So while this is not a Pure Rules match, given the bond between these two men and the style in which both excel, it may be the style this match takes on...but then again, the violent tendencies of The Blackpool Combat Club come come to the forefront and show Tracy a side of Yuta he's never experienced... PROVING GROUND MATCH... ROH Women's World Champion Athena vs. Ashley D’Amboise After defeating Yuka Sakazaki at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023 and Miyu Yamashita just days later during ROH ON HONOR CLUB, ROH Women's World Champion Athena is on a tremendous roll. She's won 18 consecutive matches in Ring of Honor, successfully defended her championship on 8 occasions, and turned away nine different potential challengers in Proving Ground/Eliminator Matches. Athena is well on her way to becoming one of the most dominant champions in Ring of Honor history, across all divisions; she's one win away from tying Rok-C's record of nine defenses, and less than 100 days away from topping Mercedes Martinez's record for longevity as champ, but how she has accomplished her success so far is what marks her as a dominant force above those aforementioned former champs. That doesn't mean it's going to stop other competitors from coming after the crown though, or at least trying to earn their way into a championship fight. The next woman looking to take on that challenge will do so this Thursday night on Honor Club, and that is Ashley D'Amboise! Despite having just under two years experience, Ashley has been inside the ring with some of the best competition AEW has to offer, as well as putting in the work honing her craft around the independent wrestling scene. Now, in her Ring of Honor debut, D'Amboise is looking to take down the top dog and earn herself a future Women's World Championship opportunity! Will the lessons learned Nyla Rose, Thunder Rosa, Kris Statlander, and Emi Sakura manifest into victory against “The Fallen Goddess”? ALSO FEATURING: ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata & Alex Coughlin vs. The Workhorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake) Skye Blue vs. Kelly Madan Mark Briscoe vs. The Varsity Athletes' Ari Daivari Willow Nightingale vs. LMK The Dark Order's Stu Grayson vs. The Varsity Athletes' Tony Nese Top Flight's Darius Martin vs. The Kingdom's Mike Bennett ROH ON HONOR CLUB comes at you this Thursday night starting at 7pm ET/6pm CT and will feature MATCHES AND STUFF!!! The fights are available exclusively with an HONOR CLUB subscription, which nets fans each new episode every Thursday night, as well as classic events like FINAL BATTLE 2008 with Bryan Danielson versus Morishima in a Fight Without Honor, as well as Straight Shootin' with Mick Foley, and the Creating Excellence series!
- ROH On HonorClub Preview For April 6, 2023
Coming off an epic SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023, Ring of Honor gets right back to the action this Thursday night on Honor Club! Last Friday the ROH faithful witnessed the crowning of a new Pure Champion in Katsuyori Shibata, as well as new ROH World Tag Team Champions in The Lucha Brothers, but no one else was able to dethrone the defending champions in Los Angeles. So with Claudio Castagnoli still reigning over the land of honor as ROH World Champion, The Embassy still standing as ROH World Six Man Champions, Samoa Joe dominating as ROH World Television Champion, and Athena running the table as ROH Women's World Champion, the new era of honor rolls on this Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT exclusively on Honor Club! With the best professional wrestling on the planet, ROH is red hot coming out of SoH 2023 so do not miss out on the next edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB featuring Athena defending her ROH Women's World Championship against Miyu Yamashita and Shibata defending his newly won crown against “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels! ROH WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena(c) vs. Miyu Yamashita This isn't the first clash between Athena and Miyu Yamashita, that took place on January 21st in Pomona, CA for Prestige Wrestling, and is currently available on IndependentWrestling.TV(https://iwtv.live/promotion/PRESTIGE#oD7d6Jn4E6). But “The Fallen Goddess” may not want fans to go back and watch it, because if they did, they'd see a moment where Yamashita actually dethroned Athena as the ROH Women's World Champion, if only for a few seconds, and not officially. Miyu, she of the most devastating head kicks in professional wrestling, caught Athena with one of those kicks and it was only the fact that the defending champion's foot fell under the bottom rope that saved the title. It took a few moments for referee Scarlette Donovan to communicate the message, long enough for the Prestige Wrestling locker room to actually come out to celebrate with Miyu, and long enough for “The Fallen Goddess” to recover and strike her challenger with the championship belt when Donovan had her back turned. Not the cleanest way to retain the championship, but retain the championship Athena did, and which she would do again this past Friday night at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023 when she faced “The Magical Girl” Yuka Sakazaki. That victory in LA marked Athena's seventh title defense, just two shy of the record set by Rok-C, a record made more impressive given that Rok-C did it in just 119 days. Now Athena won't be able to match that statistic, but she can still surpass the number of defenses Rok-C netted to become the most successful ROH Women's World Champion to date. Athena just has to make it past Miyu Yamashita once again, this time by her own request, and inside a Ring of Honor ring as well. The defending champion just has to avoid eating a Skull Kick, and suffering the same fate Shazza McKenzie did on the last episode of ROH ON HONOR CLUB. If Yamashita connects, the current Pro Wrestling EVE champion will add the ROH Women's World Championship to her trophy case. ROH PURE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... Katsuyori Shibata(c) vs. “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels Last Friday night at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023, Katsuyori Shibata ended the second Pure Championship reign of The Blackpool Combat Club's Wheeler Yuta, and then put himself right alongside Eddie Kingston in opposition to The BCC. It was a tremendous return to Ring of Honor for “The Wrestler”, his first ROH match since February 2, 2017, and just his 5th time in the ring since his shocking return during NJPW's G1 CLIMAX on October 21, 2021. Since that return Shibata has looked superb, back in action like he never missed a beat, and Wheeler Yuta learned that the hard way when he called out Shibata for that fight last Friday night. So now that “The Wrestler” is champion, the real work begins in trying to maintain hold of the title as challengers line-up to dethrone him. One of those challengers is rather familiar with the Pure Rules, having challenged for the title in the past against both Samoa Joe and the greatest Pure Champion in history, Nigel McGuinness. The last of those challenges took place at WEEKEND OF CHAMPIONS, NIGHT 1 on April 28, 2006, an event available with your Honor Club subscription, and ended when McGuinness used the rules of the match to get Daniels counted out. Many years have passed since that Pure Championship challenge, and in the intervening years, “The Fallen Angel” has managed to capture every championship he possibly could in Ring of Honor save the Pure Championship. During his time in ROH, the belt was unified with the ROH World Championship when Bryan Danielson defeated Nigel McGuinness at UNIFIED, and did not return to active status until 2020 when Jonathan Gresham won a tournament to crown a new Pure Champion. Thus the window for “The Fallen Angel” to make it a clean sweep of all the ROH championship titles was never open, not until now in this new era of honor! This Thursday night during ROH ON HONOR CLUB, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels will challenge Katsuyori Shibata for the ROH Pure Championship and try to make that goal a reality! There are few men with more experience inside that squared circle than Christopher Daniels, so perhaps that will give him an edge of over the red-hot Shibata. Daniels is certainly in for a hard-hitting war when he steps into the squared circle for this fight, just as Shibata best be prepared for someone who knows all the tricks of the trade! ALSO FEATURING: ROH World Tag Team Champions The Lucha Bros (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) & Mark Briscoe vs. The Workhorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake) & Shane Taylor Brian Cage vs. Ortiz Jay Lethal vs. Darius Martin LFI(Dralistico & Rush) vs. The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Capt. Shawn Dean) Daniel Garcia vs. Tracy Williams Willow Nightingale vs. Notorious Mimi The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) in action! Konosuke Takeshita vs. Tony Nese ROH ON HONOR CLUB comes your way this Thursday night at 7pm ET/6pm CT featuring ROH Women's World Champion Athena defending her title against Miyu Yamashita! Plus, all the fallout from SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2023 will begin to unfold with new Pure Champion Shibata, new World Tag Team Champions in Penta & Fenix, and so much more! And it's only available on HONOR CLUB, which not only features new episodes every Thursday night, but also events like the 14TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW with Jay Lethal defending the ROH World Championship against Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly, and the KEVIN STEEN: ASCENSION TO THE TOP collection that highlights his rise up the ranks of ROH!
